Take 4 fingers of Jack Daniels and add 4 ice cubes. Take one of those cubes and rub it over the plastic to chill it then a razor blade under the plastic and it should come off. Then drink the JD. Once off give the pipes a good polish.
I was just told the other day that Soft Scrub and a Mr Clean Magic Eraser work absolutely flawlessly...
But I was treated mercifully because I didn’t know what I was doing—didn’t know Who I was doing it against! Grace mixed with faith and love poured over me and into me. And all because of Jesus. Here’s a word you can take to heart and depend on: Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. I’m proof—Public Sinner Number One—of someone who could never have made it apart from sheer mercy.
I got mine off without damaging the chrome using a dremel with a small wire-wheel. I was suprised that it took off the plastic without leaving any scratches. The wire wheel had approx 1/4 inch fibers that were fairly stiff.
brass wire wheels are the softest. I'd start there (or some high tech plastic wheel) before going to traditional steel or stainless.

Vulcan 900 "oily air filter" fix
Get 3-4 feet of tranny line from parts store that's the same ID as the stock vent line. Attach to jug, route hose up to bottom of fuel tank around wires and back down to airbox, cut off excess (leave a little slack so wires are NOT under tension) and attach to airbox. Reinstall everything.
