Highway bars, or engine guard? What's the difference? I see both listed in catelogues, and they look pretty much the same. Are they different, or just different names for the same thing?

Don't know about over in theStates, but over here they are referred to as engine bars, by the dealers, instead of crash bars, because of litigation.
On every set I have ever purchased has a disclaimer on it that pretty much says, These are for looks and pegs, they are not designed to be a safety product. Or something of the sorts.

Well, they work as "crash" guards, or engine guards, or tip over bars, whatever, if the bike just tips over. They don't do a thing for if the bike crashes going forward.
So, is it bathroom tissue or toilet paper??

During the MSF course, it was fun to mention "crash bars" and "kill switches" to the instructors. They would always "correct us".

My engine guards are there to protect the bike when I tip it over while stopped or barely moving. After that they aren't a whole lot of good, although I think they look good.
