If you are going to have the shotgun get ammo. Not everyone is scared shitless of it. Remington 870 .12 gauge pump action is a good one. You can get rock salt loads if you on want to scare them off. Me personally I have .12 gauge hollow point slugs. I'm a single dad and I just don't mess around.
+1, never point a deadly weapon at anyone unless you are prepared to use it. In most cases, the only justification for pointing a gun at someone is the eminent or implied threat of injury or death. Most states side with the homeowner in shootings where an intruder breaks in. Most, if not ALL, people that would break into your house KNOW this, and have decided to "take their chances" anyway. Pointing a gun at their genitals, will give them the feeling they need to kill you, before you kill them. The worst feeling ever has to be that when you get shot to death while wielding an empty gun.
Yeah, I have a Beretta 92 as well and it's a pleasure to shoot, but that thing is a tanker compared to the LC9, and ginormous compared to the LCP (380).
The LCP is a small handgun that still packs a reasonably decent punch.
Top to bottom: LCP, Beretta 92, LC9 (laser makes it look a lot more bulky than the pistol itself is).
I am glad we don't need to have a discussion like this, here in Aussie land.
No need to carry weapons, for one's safety.
Although there are some drive by shootings here, they are omc related
Well, considering that Australia more or less banned general gun ownership I'd guess not. Those discussing such things would probably be reported as suspect criminals and investigated by the authorities.

I've never thought that rock salt loads were a good idea. Regardless of what your beliefs are as far as not taking a life, there are legal repercussions to a rock salt load. If someone gets shot with it, gets a good lawyer, they can tie you up in court for years with assault charges. If you are going to shoot something at someone it has to be because you are fearing for your life, shooting someone with rock salt doesn't imply that.
Not trying to get too crazy with the legal stuff. Just food for thought.

Not like you all had a choice, Aussie Nomad; it's a former British (Penal) Colony. I am a Native American and Tribal Member of the Comanche Nation and as such I am as original an American as they come. For my non-Native American brothers they broke away from your progenitors in case you forgot. We as Native Americans were already independent and free here but it all boils down to this: Are you willing to fight for and die for your freedom?

I have been thinking about this for the last month or so.
I don't carry except when I am traveling. That whole hotel, looking like a tourist, extra cash thing and all.
Anyway; at the first of this month I was packing my Voyager for a weekender, and did not have a good location to pack anything I use for personal defense.
I need to get a bike gun.

I love my LC9

If I were dating your daughter (say you had one of such age) I'd hate to piss you off. Guy with the empty shotgun on the other hand, well, I think 3am, or maybe later if need be sounds like a nice curfew...
As for shooting rock salt, shoot to kill. Otherwise it's your word agsinst theirs.

Is there a Gadget page for us 900 owners???
Vulcan 900 "oily air filter" fix
Get 3-4 feet of tranny line from parts store that's the same ID as the stock vent line. Attach to jug, route hose up to bottom of fuel tank around wires and back down to airbox, cut off excess (leave a little slack so wires are NOT under tension) and attach to airbox. Reinstall everything.

Great pics Who!
I like my 92 but need something that isn't a "tanker" for my bike.
I will probably talk a bunch of B.S. about .380s until I buy one. Then start looking for reasonably priced ammo.

Happiness does not consist in pastimes and amusements but in virtuous activities.
If you're shooting FMJs then you'll probably be able to find 9mm less expensive. But, once you get into name brand HPs, Federal Hydra-Shok, Speer Gold Dot, Hornady Critical Defense, etc. the price for 380 is similar or maybe even a bit less.
Anyone remember "Black Talons"? They will ruin your whole day!
Here's my picks, from top to bottom.
Top: .45 ACP 1911 A1; This one's a Springfield Armory Middle: A KelTec .32 ACP; the minimum requirement for: "What to bring to a gunfight!" Bottom: A Sig Sauer P239 in .40 S&W
I really like the Sig. It's a .40 on a compact 9mm frame. A single-stack mag makes this a narrow and compact gun. The double action gives you a revolver-like first shot, with short trigger pull on follow-up shots. No safety, but has a de-cocking lever.

I carry a Beretta Model 21 in .22 caliber most of the time. I was out in the desert by myself, stopped to take a leak and realized how vulnerable I was way out there, so I carry more. I have had a permit for about 20 years. You don't need one in Arizona, but getting one is good for going to other states.
I have seen one person killed in a shooting in my life, it happened about 20 feet from me. Believe me, that is at least one too many. It was a single shot to the chest from a .22 pistol. He died within seconds. I think he was 16. As a side thing, I was absolutely amazed at the ability of the press to get every detail of the story wrong.
