Far as I know they used three styles of rims on the EN500 Vulcan 500. 2 Aluminum I have seen and the spokes. They are more or less interchangeable with a few minor things that you have to deal with.
Biggest one being the speedo gear is on the opposite side on later years, IE aluminum wheel years had speedo gear on the side with the Brake. Later years Spoked had on other side. When I installed my Aluminum rims I noticed the forks have 2 nubs that keep the speedo gear from spinning. Those nubs arent on the side of the brakes so the speedo gear has some play in it.
Other than that is was more or less a plug and play changeover. Unbolted from one straight from the other.
Just recieved my 1985 EN450 mags today in the mail, $75 shipped off of ebay with the rubber dampner, wheel spacers, and speedo drive!!! Now for a month of polising

Few annoyances I noticed. Front Axle nut can't be torqued all the way or it causes issues with the speedo gear. The speedo gear on the left side by the disk for the brakes doesn't have the nubs to keep it in place. It seems to work fine but like I said. Couldn't torque the Axle nut all the way. Lilo blue lock tite and it shouldn't be a problem.
I read on another forum that the A and C speedo gears are slightly different and that the A speedo gear needs to be used with the A wheels.
I wonder if this is why you can't torque the axle nut all the way?
Here is a picture comparing the two from that forum post.
The EN500A left and EN500C right.

I keep going thru speedo cables. Maybe that's why?
