2002 1500 Mean Streak Fluid Questions

Hey guys!

I have ordered an owners manual for my bike but in the mean time i want to replace the fluids. The oil seems low as there is a small glass eye on the lower end of the engine (i am guessing its to check oil levels) and it looks almost completely empty, which is unacceptable.

I have a few questions regarding the oil, gear oil in shaft and brake fluid.


My old man is an Amsoil dealer so i want to get Amsoil for the bike. On this page, this seems to be the oil for my bike but it says "Not recommended where an API GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil is required."

I have no idea what that means :/

I have no idea what the specs are for the shaft gear oil or what kind of brake fluid is acceptable for the bike.

I would appreciate it if someone can tell me if i can run the Amsoil in this bike without a problem. Also, if i can use the Amsoil gear fluid for the shaft let me know what kind is best... Same for the brake fluid

PS I live in Los Angeles where the tempature averages around Mid to High 50s - 60s at night during the winter and 70's during the day. Its about 80 - 90 during the summer.

If anyone has the Mean Streak and has experience changing the oil, any first hand experience is appreciated!
