Question About Installing L.E.D. Strip

I live in Cali, so any lights on the bike outside of the standard operating lights is arguably illegal. I was hoping to add a little led strip under the tank, though, just to give off a little light so people can see the bike from the side. Nothing that will flood down and light up the bike and ten feet around it, but something that would give off a faint glow.

Anyway, I picked up a couple Radiantz Sidewinder 3 LED Strip and was hoping to install them under the tank somewhere. Then I realized I wasn't sure what the best way to wire them in would be.

Does anyone have a suggestion on whether or not I should wire them into the headlight wires or not? I was thinking of hooking them to the battery, but then they would be on constantly. I figured the headlights might be the next best option. What do you guys think?

Without a doubt, use a switch. They can be picked up for about 2 bucks.

And also get an inline fuse, cost about 2 bucks also.

I use the very same rocker switch listed there for several different things; one for my LED's and one for my stero.

Cool. Thanks. Where did you mount the rocker switch? On the bars? I was thinking of mounting one under the tank somewhere I can reach under and turn it on, but it's not in plain view (I suck at making things look good after an install).

Keeping in mind I have the V2k with the bug light, I have them installed in the panel above the triple tree.

This is a older pic. I originally had the stereo and LED's on the same switch, then later moved the stereo to it's own switch.

Thanks for the idea. I think I'll go that route with the rocker switch and the inline fuse.

I'm not sure if they still have it for your model year, but in the actual headlight housing there are two wires for acessories. That outlet should cut out automatically when the key is off but I do agree with smedlin, get an inline fuze. If you can't sodder, you can get clamp on wire ends for it at walmart or radio shack.

Sometimes you want the LED's to be on even when the bike is not....
