Thanks, dudes, for all the replies. Smedlin, you said the tank is not hard to remove. I hope you're right on that as I'm guessing you have to remove it to either check the plugs or replace?? TB2000, I haven't done it yet as the temp here in the KC area took a plunge. I love to ride, but it just got too cold. I was gonna back it off to 2 4 0 and see if that made a diff. I'm sure I'm not telling you guys any news here, but the 2000 is a monster bike, isn't it?? I love the power, I love the sound. Even in 5th gear at 85, you turn the wick and can damn near pick that front end up.

It really is simple.

Take off the seat and remove the tank bolt, located at the "pointy end" of the tank (where the seat would be).

At this point, I'll lift the tank up a few inches and slide something under where the bolt goes, like a roll of duck tape

I have big hands and those few inches of space help to access the fuel hose.

Below the coil, are three electrical connections. Make note of how the wires are "run/wrapped", so you can redo it (quick snapshot from cell phone is handy). Undo all three.

Find the fuel hose behind the coil. See the red/orange clamp? Take a flat head screw driver and poke each side of the clamp in towards the hose, then push the clamp back. Pull off hose from pump. A bit of gas will leak out from the hose, it's ok.

Don't forget breather hose, located on the underside of the tank by the bolt hole (near where the seat would be).

The tank lifts up and toward the seat. Don't bang it on the handlebars.

I was nervous when I first did it. Now I can have it off in less than five minutes.

I dont have backfireing on my Meany but I HAVE TO keep baffles in my Samson Exhaust or I get that brrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaappp sound on decel & when shifting. If you dont have baffles in they may help. Just a thought...Also I'm running 2-4-0 on my fi2000, FYI

Yeah, almost too simple. The first time I took mine off & put it back on, I couldn't believe that the 1 tank bolt is all that's holding it down (besides gravity). After I put it on, every time I hit a bump and saw it jiggle, I wondered if I missed something and the tank might bounce off. It hasn't...yet.

Oh, and I found that checking the coolant by leveling the bike with a lift, laying on the ground and using a flashlight makes seeing through the "sight tube" easier. It's a hassle, but it works.
