Open Left Side Cover?

Newly accquired 98 1500E...how do you get the left side cover off? The one with the key and toolkit in it. When i unlock mine it will open about 3 inches on the key side but the left side of it is stuck. There is a custom clutch cover close to the left side and I'm thinking this may be preventing it from openin'. Does it swing open on a hinge or pull off somehow? I'm afraid to force it too much.

I don't know about the 1500 but on my 900 there is a single screw that has to be taken out before the cover can be pulled from the tabs. On mine the screw is accessed from the top of the cover. Don't force it or you will snap the plastic. Take a look all around the cover to find the screw.

On the left side there are two plastic pegs on the cover that fit into two grommets. Unlock and then push the cover toward the front of bike to snap it out of the grommets. It is probably going to take some pushing as it is tight fit. Good luck.

Thanks...exactly as y'all said, two grommets, push forward. The choke cover was up against the side cover on the left side keeping it from going forward. I removed the choke cover and it popped right off.
