There are many similar products on the market. Although I've never used the SKF product mentioned here I have used a product called Krytox quite extensively in industrial applications where conditions reach serious extremes when pertaining to both temperature and moisture. Krytox is almost cost prohibitive but extremely effective for this very purpose. I would think most any product that restricts air and moisture penetration would be better than nothing. It used to be simple when we just used white lead paste but I assure you these new compounds will be longer lasting.

I used white lead for checking the patterns on ring and pinion gears...or am I dating myself again?

This man answered you out of kindness & wanting to help. Why argue? I'm sure he has some mechanical background & that his intentions were NOT to send you on a wild goose chase. Look into his suggestions or go pay the stealer $1800. We're all here to help each other with our issues & talk motorcycles & such in general.
