just curious, does anyone make lowering links for the vn2000 or is there a way to lower the back end of these bikes. The a$$ end looks way higher/bigger than I like, kinda like some of the women I see at the health club!
Even Britt Customs Though I think they've been out of stock now for over 1/2 year.
Make your own. I few of us have.
You can drop the rear down from 1 1/2" to 2".
Hey Paul need your op...did you have to make any mods to your Mustang seat after lowering the rear? Also, did you lower front too? How do you like it now compared to stock? I'm lookin at lowering mine as well. Ponch posted some great pics of the homemade kit. Yours similar?
That's unfortunate. He was one of the few on this board that knew quite a bit about our bikes and actually did the work himself.
I learned a lot from him.
I'm a machinist by trade, so I'd also be interested in some specs. I think I could make these for nearly nothing if I knew some specifics on that angle...
I'd be intertested if they could be done for a reasonable price. I'm hesitant about paying $120 for something that may not work because it bottoms out.
Hey, is anybody going to get these specs to bobpatterson.80? Come on smedlin, surely it is about time for you to pull yours out and have them chromed! anybody!
LOL. Trust me mate, if it was visible, it would be shiny
it's been in the 80's here. Went bar hopping this past weekend with the wife (on the bike).
It could be awhile before I'm ready to tear down the bike. (Cant' just simply take the seat off and measure. Would have to actually take the drop off the bike.)
Smed, isn't it time for you to pull that lowering link and get the specs to bobpatterson...
it was 28 degrees here this morning must be getting cold down in Houston!
Yea, it's been getting down into the upper 30's here. Which is freaking cold! But, being Texas, it's back up to about 70 in the afternoon.
I DID try taking the link off a few weeks ago. I was (again) moving stuff around on the bike, and wanted to access the space under the shock. But I couldn't get that bolt out. I had forgotten it was a pain to put on.
The link is not a square/rectangle. It has "bends" that allow it to snug onto the mount. You'd be better off ordering one, measuring it in person, then returning it.
Don't sweat it, brother. I went out today and unbolted my shock, lowered the bike 1-1/2" and calculated (aka guessed) the angle. Why only 1-1/2? Cause with a 205/60 I'm not sure 2" would clear after I sat down on it, much less 2 up. Anybody have any thoughts on that?
I'm gonna make a set next week. I'm not sure I like the way the originals are designed, so I may try some mods. Could take a few weeks to get it right. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong, but it looks like they would create lateral stress on the shock having no support on the swingarm side. Anybody had any shock troubles after installing lowering links?
I made my own didn't like the way that one was made. In the stock shock mount there is a 27mm needle bearing with a sleeve ,I used that in my new link.
been there done that on the lowering brackets. In the end, I relocated the original shock mount to almost a 12-1 oclock position. Way way smoother operation. Lots of welding, but worth the time.
07vn2000, how much trouble is it to move that bearing? I can't see it working properly without rigid mounting the brackets to the shock mount, then moving the bearing with the shock. That would be just as smooth and almost as solid as re-locating the mount if done right.
