I had a shop replace my front tire w/a new one I bought on the web. Was in the beginning of June. And, I took the wheel off, took it to them, brought it back w/the new tire mounted & reinstalled the wheel on my 900 Vulcan Custom. You can read my thread here: http://www.vulcanforums.com/forums/4...ont-wheel.html. The new tire's a wee bit bigger than the original, but not by much.
It sounds like bearings going bad, but I've replaced them...

sfair, i just purchased an 06 900 and while iwas there at the buyers they jump started the bike and it ran until they disconnected the charger cords. i have replaced the battery with an agm battery that i trickle charged and tested it to good voltage and installed it. I have all the proper lights turning on and fuel pump primes when i turn the key however, when i hit the start button it just cycles the fuel pump. It doesnt even make an attempt to start. it does have a power commander on the bike i know those can go bad sometimes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi I am not sure if all my replies get to you I might be posting to me.
I did ask if the ac voltage indicates anything they were very low.
Also I sent a big thank you to you.
Also do I need to change gasket if I replace stater or is liquid gasket ok?
Sfair, it burns me up to see you with over 7500 posts trying to help us with our bike problems and read a respondent's repeatedly incomplete, unresponsive and inconsiderate answers. Yet you keep on trying to get through to us numbskulls. Sometimes I don't know how you keep your cool.
Hey Sfair. You seem to be a wealth of knowledge around here. I just bought an 01 Vulcan 1500 classic from a friends dad 59k miles. He told me the starter and relay were bad. When I hit the start button it just clicked. He stated that its a new battery, when I hooked my charger up to it it read 97%. I have since replaced both starter and the relay. I still only get a click when I hit the start button and there is some smoke coming off the relay. After replacing the relay and starter it clicked loudly, after a few tries the click died to almost nothing. Charger now shows battery at 27%. Could it be the battery? I am pretty handy but my knowledge is lacking. I plan to try and jump the bike with my atv battery when I get home from work. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi sfair - I got my multi-meter and did the first couple tests. Here is what I got.
Battery charging test (DC volts across the battery):
- Off: 13.25v
- Warm Idle: 12.5v
- High RPM: 14.44v
Test 1 (AC volts on white regulator wires)
A to B: 4.65v @ idle, 5.37v @ rpm
B to C: 13.0v @ idle, 8v @rpm
A to C: 16.0v @ idle, 11v @ rpm
*According to the thead these are real low numbers. Does this tell you something?
Test 2: Short to ground.
- All resistance shows infinite.
Test 3: Regulator Rectifier test/
- All combinations show infinite. Why do you need to take the rectifier off the bike? I left mine on with the wire connector off. When I test all the pin connections on the rectifier, I get infinite an all. Yes the multi-meter records 0 when probes are touched.
*According to your thread, this is not right. Not sure I'm doing this correctly.
Did I do it right?
Does this mean anything conclusive?
