I've got a sissy bar, so I don't ride with the bag that way. However, a friend I ride with has the same bike (different color) and grantour bag, and he has his mounted with the pad under the seat, no issues whatsoever. We've made several trips with his attached in this manner, and his bag has been nothing but steady, although he doesn't use it as a back rest like I do.

I sent him a quick text to see if he had to modify the seat or latch in any way, and he said not at all.
