Generations Ride Planned

This summer, probably in June, I will be spending a week with my 74 year old Dad and thirteen year old son Daniel participating in the Tour of Honor. 2017 Tour of Honor Motorcycle Ride Daniel and I will be riding Hidalgo while Dad will ride Son of Hidalgo. The Tour of Honor will release its Memorials list on April 1, 2017 so we won't know exactly where we will go until after that date. The loose plan is to ride around the Ark-La-Miss area based near Monroe, LA.

There is a lot to do to prepare for this. We live over 600 miles from Dad so we'll have to trailer the bikes there. That means I'll have to refurbish the trailer and get my ol' pickup out of mothballs. Hidalgo is pretty much ready but Son of Hidalgo still needs a bit of work to ensure it can make the distance.

We are all looking forward to this and hope that it will be enjoyable by all. We'll be Making Memories.

Day one of our Tour of Honor quest is complete. We covered a little over 200 miles today and visited two Memorials. The first one was in Jonesville, LA, and the second one was in Bunkie, LA. Tomorrow we will attempt to make it to St. Charles via Morgan City and Cameron.

Ready to head out.

LA2: Jonesville, LA

LA4: Bunkie, LA

Son of Hidalgo still has a fuel delivery issue. I replaced the fuel filter (again) but it still continues. Frequent breaks (rest stops for Dad) seem to help it not heppen. I think it still has a 'sock filter' at the carb 'T' that I will remove.

Our Tour of Honor quest is over. Dad straightened out a curve near Plaquemine, LA and landed in a wet ditch. We're at the hospital getting him checked out.

Okay, Dad has nothing more than some swelling on his left jaw and some cuts on his left hand. He was wearing leather gloves and a full face helmet at my insistence. He is being released as I type this.

The Ochsner ER in Plaquemine, LA has been most accommodating as has the Iberville Parish Sheriff's department.

We'll be heading back to Arkansas tomorrow then back home in a few days. This Tour of Honor quest will happen at a later time.

Update:

We got the bike picked up and back to Dad's. Dad is back at home happy to be resting in his own recliner. I followed them home on Hidalgo.

Dad is sore and bruised but is feeling okay. With OTC pain killers he'll be fine in to time.

The bike has a few broken parts but it, like all other *things*, can be fixed.

Our Tour of Honor quest will have to wait for another time. We have until October 31 of this year to gather up five more memorials for a Finisher's Certificate. If not we can try again another year.

Please ride safe y'all.

What a cool story (minus your Dad going down of course), thanks for sharing. I hope your father makes a speedy recovery and you guys can finish the Tour of Honor quest.
