building an old chopper from a 500

here goes ...

here's the frame. It was my old parts bike for my other 500. I noticed something was strange about it

Can't believe they CUT the rear fender struts. I would just go with it if I didn't need them for my sissy bar. Solution: get a new frame. Costs the same as welding on new struts.

Now - tons of new parts to rebuild the frame ... but need a rolling chassis for the "raker" and in dire need of painting after...

hmmm, these tubes are NOT going on as easy as before. Can't imagine what a pain they will be when I get the 10" overs!

coolmesser,

I have a complete unaltered frame that was *my* old parts bike. It was t-boned in a wreck but I don't see where it is severely damaged. PM me if you are interested in it.

Or did you get a 'new' frame already?

I got one. Thanks though Bill I appreciate it. Are you guys not able to see my pictures? I hosted them somewhere else to get by the stupidy "approval" thing.

Spent like an hour at the fastener shop today. Needed a ton of various bolts, screws, and nuts for this frame.

That place fascinates me. They have every type of bolt, screw, nut etc... known to man. It is BY FAR my favorite store in the world.

excellent

now don't expect too much "fabrication" or the like outta me. If I can put this thing together then that's the most mechanickin' I have done since high school. I don't have actual skills like some of these guys.

But, it should be cool watching it come together if these things work out like I plan.

lovely. problem #2 - first there was strutgate, now there is the rust menace.

can't get the allen head bolt out of the triple tree bottom. tried every which way. even heated then cooled them. used a cheap crescent wrench as a cheater bar on the allen wrench and bent it a good 45 degrees. amazing torque applied to no avail.

new triple tree coming. oh well, progress impeded once again.

well, at least the new engine came in from New York. I am sure there will be a setback or two there.

I wonder if a NY engine runs with an accent?
