From all the reading I've done, the 'c' speedo gear has the little tab that fits in the groove to hold it in place. So I guess the 'a' gear doesn't have that and if you tighten all the way it pinches it. IDK for sure, but if you all can figure it out before i get my 454ltd's polished I would appreciate it.

My A wheels are on the UPS truck along with an A speedo gear.
When I get them I will try the A wheel on my 500C bike with both the A speedo gear and the C speedo gear.
Hopefully, I will understand the difference more and will provide feedback.

It will be interesting to see how your 454 wheels work out.
I almost bought a pair when I saw these really nice 500A wheels for sale.
Both styles are really nice.

pfffffffffffffft ... I am sticking a 21 x 2.15 wheel off a vulcan 800 on the front of this chopper.

Wonder what I will do for a speedo now?

I wonder if this is why you can't torque the axle nut all the way?

Here is a picture comparing the two from that forum post.
The EN500A left and EN500C right.

Sorry I missed this but I am running the old style speedo gear with the old wheels. The issue with the axle nut is the forks are only notched on one side to hold the speedo gear in place. Naturally on later models that is the right side. Unfortunately the speedo gear has to be on the left side to run earlier model wheels. No notch the left fork to stabilize the speedo gear.

mdan575 - did you end up fashioning something to hold it in place, or is the cable all that's there? I figure it may try to rotate with the wheel, but pressure of the cable there would keep it from rotating too far. Maybe just rocking back and forth? Correct?

Also, by 'old wheels', do you mean the 90-96 (silver) or the 85-89 (black)?

Just the cable holds mine in place. No issues so far at all works great actually. Check on it occasionally and it seems to be fine. Yes it rocks back and forth a little bit but nothing that would creat a problem.

I have the 90-96 wheels
