My 1990 EN500 Vulcan will not turn over. It cranks and cranks.
Some of the things I have done:
1) Took carb and disassembled and cleaned it. Put a new gasket on the bowl.
2) New fuel line and new vent line.
3) Cleaned the tank with muriatic acid.
4) Installed new petcock.
5) Put clean high octane fuel in the tank.
6) Charged the battery.
7) Installed new spark plugs.
I tried to crank it on full choke first and then half choke. Just cranks.
Try starting the bike full throttle and no choke. You may be flooded out. Once it starts, let off the throttle. In warmer weather, choke shouldn't be needed.
Why did you do that? Muriatic acid was probably a poor choice.
Also, do you mean the engine will not start or it will not turn over? Two different things.
Muriatic totally cleaned the tank....better than POR 15 and the others. Radiator shops do the same thing only for $150. Lowes charges $8 a gallon.
The engine will not turn over. Actually had the plugs out today when I put in the 2 new ones. Had to buy a socket at Advanced Auto because mine was too thick and my "good tools" are locked up in the Subaru dealership I work at.
1. Muriatic acid is highly corrosive to ferric metals, so that may come back to bite you. Why did you clean the tank?
2. The others can comment on the "no turning over" issue.
You could be jumping to conclusions about that as the poster seems confused about terminology.
Maybe what he means is the starter is spinning but the engine is not turning over??? Who knows.
Got to clear that up.
