Just noticed today that after a certain rpm, I get a rattle/grind/buzz from the front of the bike. I have read about the inner exhaust/header wall breaking and causing a rattle, but would this rattle be present at all rpm ranges? No tach, so all I can say is that it is in the high range. Also, during idle it occurse at about a third of the throttle.
Both headers are blued under the heat shield at the cylinder
After getting to ride home from work, I am pretty certain it is the dreaded exhaust rattle. Happens during mid to high range rpm's and rather intermittently. Sounds like a light metal on metal rattle/buzz for a few moments until I either drop below those rpm's or drive fast enough the engine/exhaust/wind drown it out.
This is on a 95 500, with 14.5k on the clock.
I've read numerous threads on multiple forums about it and it generally seems all you can do is replace it, or if you catch it early enough, try and spot weld it back together.
Wrap won't do anything to deaden the noise? Getting custom built/bent pipes to mount up?
I feel silly now, right exhaust manifold clamp is just clattering away, hanging on really loose. Thanks for the help guys!
