Illinois Ride for Twisties and Mexican Food -- May 11
Saturday is supposed to be 62 and Sunny! This is a loosely structured ride to get some folks together who want to. Cruisers / sport / sport touring whatever. Bring a friend. I don’t usually stop this often, but have the stops scheduled if needed. The smaller the group, the easier to keep going and make decisions on the fly. In the end, all that matters are some good curves and good company for lunch. This ride might be one bike or 20. Who knows.
First, the bad news – Cajun Connection doesn’t open for lunch time hours until June. So rather than riding for a few curves and Cajun, this is riding for a few curves and Mexican. Missing Cajun Ron sucks. But Salamandra’s in Dixon is one of the best Mexican joints around – especially in that area. (If only a few people are going and want to eat Cajun at 4:00, I am all for making it a longer ride and eating later ….)
Ride 24.7 mi – about 41 mins
To Starved Rock State Park. Everyone rides their own ride through the twisties and regroup at the main park entrance
Ride 35.9 mi – about 1 hour 2 mins
Taking Tiskwila Bottom Road. Gas stop in Tiskwila if needed. Just outside of town a nearly abandoned bridge on the Hennepin canal. Nice park (all pavement) and picture taking opportunity for those willing to ride 100yds of smooth dirt on bridge.
Can see park behind the bike.
38.7 mi – about 52 mins
Ride to Salamandra’s Restaurant for lunch. 105 W 1st St, Dixon, IL 61021
What? Between, 2 and 2:30?
Ride north along river to Oregon, IL. Those wishing to split can say goodbye and head East on 64. Those wishing to keep riding the river can head North to Byron and head East on Rt. 72.
Hope to meet some folks from this and a few other sites. Would be good to get approximate head count for lunch ...
Live in the village of Sleepy Hollow in the Dundee area in the northwest Chicago suburbs. Work in nearby Hoffman Estates. Upgraded from a smaller bike in to a VN 1700 LT. Lovin it.
Son lives nearby and we're happy to have company. Please look me up if you're bored.
I'm planning to head out Aug 2nd to run the river road, gonna pick it up at I-72 and rt 100 and head south to Fast Eddies. Wouldnt mind some company if anyone is interested..

WOW! This post goes back just over three year and this is the first time I've seen it. After I enjoyed reading everyone of your post I've came to the conclusion that I set right in the middle of all you guys. I live in Spring Valley IL, just west of LaSalle-Peru and Starved Rock is my stomping ground.
I know it's late and winter is upon us but this next season we'll have to plan a get together so we can put some faces with these names. Since 09 from my 09 900LT to my 2012 Vaquero "that I love" I and my wife have logged over 50,000 miles on the bike, so with that said I will ride anywhere and meet. There's only a few places that I haven't been In IL and Alton IL/ Fast Eddie's is on my bucket list for this next season, might just be a over night trip!
As far as you Randy/racinfan101, I'm very much interested in your club and getting together with you guys this next season. I and the wife ride to Peoria a lot just to get something to eat and it's a great ride going that way.
Rodney I sent you a note on Facebook. The Central IL VRA chapter is a bit spread out but we do have some folks from up your way in our group. You can check our FB group here:
