Just ordered a new set of Metzeler Me888's...
Was debating between these and the Michelin Commander 2's, both similar in price and performance and mileage. But with the $50 "Fast Fifty" rebate program currently available, that tipped the scales in the Metzeler's favor. Plus I like the idea of a steel belted motorcycle tire.
I hope they live up to my expectations.
Net cost will be $ 228.76
Now if I recoup from my upcoming second leg surgery and get a decent job all would be right in my world, again!!!
Update on the Metzler 888...
Well as of the last ride I have put approximately 600 miles on them.
Wow, that went quick!!!
I started off being impressed by the 888 by the end of my driveway, some broken concrete and about a 1 foot rise to the asphalt road. Substantially rounder feel, easier steering with a lighter feel. Started off with the front at 32 PSI and the rear at 36 PSI. I'm now upped both to 36 PSI front and 40 psi rear. I also lowered my rear shock pressure from 30 psi to 20 PSI to compensate for the harder rear tire, damping stayed at 3.
Handling improved at these pressures and my confidence rose as well.
I have purposely ridden on cracks and tar snakes in the road to evaluate how the tires perform and could feel virtually nothing.
You can effectively use the whole road without worry of being influenced by these annoying anomalies.
I even went across the infamous Singing Bridge in downtown Frankfort, KY and easily navigated from side to side with little effect, this bridge is known for its steel grating which make your tires sing as you go across the bridge.
In the local twisties they performed admirably, although I have not done any peg dragging as of yet.The wider rear tire a 180 65-16 does handle differently than the stock size and has taken a bit of time to get used to.
As you can tell overall I'm very very pleased with the performance of the Metzler 888's and recommend them highly.
As for wear, the jury still out on that as well as wet weather handling as I don't usually ride in the rain. But we all know that you're going to get caught out sometime. I'm always 100 times more careful in the rain anyway but will post back if anything changes my opinion one way or the other.
I just installed the Metzeler M888 Ultra plus both front and rear. I have that tire on the rear of my other bike and really liked it. The wear is good as well as the performance. I just road tested after installing same and it's a new bike! I applied online for the $50 rebate. Net cost $223.
