thinking of buying a 97 vulcan 1500

Hello everyone! I am a sport bike rider (04 zx6rr) but I am looking at getting a 97 vulcan 1500 for long trips and my 60 mile one way trip to work. The bike has 22,000 miles and seems to have almost everything on it (crash bars, saddle bags, floor boards, full wind screen, mustang seat, the works). The guy is asking $4,000, and it runs great. My questions are - Is this a good deal and do these bikes have any normal problems. I will be new to the cruiser world, and i am just triing to make an informed decision on the cruiser that brings me in. Oh, this will most likely be the only cruiser i buy for a LONG while.

That seems like a reasonable price considering the extras. I know if it's a good runner and in nice condition(paint etc.)it'd bring at least that around this area.

I got my 97 Vulcan 1500 Classic to ride to work. I go about 65 miles each way. It's been a great bike. I got mine for $3300 so I firgured I got a steal of a deal. Mine is very comfortable to ride. Here is a couple of pictures of my ride. The only thing I might change on it is to take off the 12" mini apes and install Baron's Big Johnson bars. And also switch to white wall tires.

It had 41,000 when I bought it. It now has 48,000 and still runs like a champ. I change the oil every 3,000 miles with Mobil 1 V-Twin oil. I'm averaging 38-41 mpg. I've run Seafoam in it twice since I bought it.

Watch out with the Gearbox, Kawasaki had a lot of problems with them. The 2.Gear likes to slip out and this is most the begin of a very $$ repair.

Good Luck

Thanks to everyone for your replys. What is the problem with the gear box (other than it coming out of second). What is the cause, how much would it be to fix, and what are the symptoms leading up to the failure?

EDIT: OK i read the forum about the POG. Just to clearify, Is that a Recall or do you have to have a warrenty on the bike?
