Ok on a 2003 1500 Nomad the speedometer quit working , took it to the shop and had a sensor put in and they said that it was not the problem. Got it home and now the sensor is jumping around but seems to work in the higher gears correctly. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be that is causing these issues. Thanks ahead of time
Ok,
1. Disconnect positive battery cable.
2. Put one end of an ohmmeter probe on the black/white wire of speed sensor and other end in black/yellow of big plug under speedo housing and check for "0" ohms.
3. Put one end of meter on pink wire of speedo sensor and other end on light green/red at speedo end and check for "0" ohms.
4. Put one end of meter on orange/red of speedo sensor and other end on light green/black at speedo end and check for "0" ohms.
5. While you are doing each of the above tests, tug, tap and jiggle harness everywhere you can get at it to check for an intermittent open.
I am suspecting an intermittent open because it seems as though it is vibration sensitive.
Ok had 6 to 8 between black/yellow and black/white had 0 on orange/red and green/black and 6 on green/red and pink. Did notice the connection between black/yellow on the speedo and the pink wire on sensor also showed to be closed ,not sure if that is supposed to be
Black/white to black yellow should be "0" ohms.
Orange/red to green/black should be "0" ohms. (that reading you got OK)
Pink to green/red should be "0" ohms.
Two of those readings do not look good. They are all direct wire connections and should be "0" ohms.
What "exact reading did you get between pink and black/yellow?
Remove connector from speedo sensor, turn on key and take voltage reading on all three pins in the connector. Put negative meter lead on "battery" ground.
OK, sorry we could not persue it.
The voltages you should have found on the pins should have been:
Black/yellow - 0v
Green/red - about 5v
Green/black - 12v
Just in case you decide to have a go.
