Angry ignition problems

I have a 2001 vulcan 1500 FI classic that I am having problems with it cutting out after 10 to 15 minutes of riding. It has an aftermarket thunder ignition on the handlebar tree. I noticed the other day that the ignition wires up close to the ignition are getting hot. Any ideas on why they would be getting so hot? Is my ignition switch maybe going out and that is the cause of the cutting out? I have not gotten any response please help.
