I have a 2003 1600 classic and was wondering if anyone here has any recommendations on some crash bars and/or a fairing.

I have the standard size Cobra highway bars on mine...
I liked the "Fatty" bars but their size will limit the accessories you can mount to them...
We have 1" handlebars so I figured the 1 1/4" bars were fine...

As for fairings...
I like my windshield just fine too...
What fairings I have seen that I like are from USA Trailer Store...

Do the Cobra bars use a clamp on the top to mount to frame? How sturdy does this seem? I see they are marketed as "highway bars" and not crash bars. I'm interested in mounting some but if they wont protect me from a low speed drop, I don't see much of a point. Any thoughts on that since you have them on you bike?

Thanks!

Yes, they do use a "clamp"...
I'm more interested in tip-over protection...
My scoot getting knocked over in the past has cost me money...
Thank you, coworkers.
I have been fortunate, or experienced enough, to not have crashed any street bike I have owned...
Not to say that I have never crashed ON the street...LOL !!!
I have the scars to prove that !!!
Muddy wet tires on a dirt bike ridden on the street spell, c-r-a-s-h !!!
From what I have read, the Lindby Bars don't fair very well either...
With the extra welds and angles to produce that beautiful shape...
They fold up upon impact and hopefully, did I say "hopefully" not crimp your leg to your bike's exhaust...hopefully.

The Cobra Bars suit me and my needs, even though they are mostly cosmetic...
In a tip-over they will be better than not having them...
They will give me a better angle to "right" my bike...
In a "low speed" parking lot maneuver laydown, probably the same...
May need help getting her upright then...
Pray I never find out !!!

YMMV,
