cc,, here is the pdf.. My buddy now has my ol RedBear'n and has bought/moved the caliper back to stock config. He has the cutdown bracket. If you want to buy/acquire it from him, save yor stock unit for if/when you want to go back..? let me know, I will ask him. poncho
pm your email address, I can send the full size drawings.pdf wont fit here?
Ponch: I deff want to relocate my caliper (probably a task for next winter's rainy day), ask yur buddie how much he wants for the bracket and I am interested.
BTW, is there a reason he returned it to original location, is there something wrong with the new location??? maybe it is more difficult to purge or to replace pads??
Smed: I just went through the tread in 2012 when you just had yours done, it seems very simple job with a dremmel in hand. If I'm not able to get a bracket to save my original just in case I'm going 4 it anyway, really cleans up the look on the back. For my skils looks like all I need is a couple of rainy days in winter to get it done.
Any thing you would nave done different, is the chrome there difficult to maintain???
ten77, save yor brakitt.. I will get it from my buddy. he just hasn't responded yet to my inquirey.. when I round it up, I will ship it to yor bros house? poncho
@Ponch: tanx, I'm in no hurry, if it shows up and fits on BRB you can bring it to me in a few days. That will get done until good weather is over or the wife is pissed off at me and I need an excuse to stay I the garage ( I'll bet this last will happen first).
rember always when your in deep doodoo Proverbial words from Tim the tool man Taylor. Repeat these three sentences:
I am sorry
Its all my fault
I promise it will never happen again.
and just for luck throw this in,
I love you, please forgive me..
Hey if it worx for the tool man and he is always committing mortal sins (i have history) its gotta save yor sorry azz... i mean how bad can you skrew things up? poncho
I finally completed mine today, plus added new pipes. I know I have already posted it in the "What have you done to your Vulcan today" section but it only seemed fitting to add it here as well. Thanks to everyone for the inspriation. Keep the ideas coming. Preacher
AMEN brother !!! You said it. When I installed the new pipes, before the caliper relocation, it looked empty. Now it looks as if this is where it should have been all along. By the way, does anyone know who came up with this mod ?
Now that EZrider brought this thread back I might as well post the final stage of my rear brake mod, this was also mention by Poncho way back and had it in mind for a while, did not want to do it until I had the SS Braided lines as I requested a shorter line for the rear. the intent was to further clean up the rear as I went more direct to hte new caliper location and also cleaned up the front whit the new location for the reservoir.
Removing the reservoir from the original location will allow to in the brake pedal a good 1 a half to 2 inches so the movement from floorboard to brake pedal will be more natural one.
This form doesn't work well on my phone lol, wanted to add more to my first comment.
Thanks for posting pics, i totally wanna do that with mine.
So to add to my question, once you cut the bracket to fit what did you do to lock it back in position. Because when you rotate it, it will no longer be able to lock in and only rely on the wheel hub bolt to keep it in place....
Also did you have to get a custom line made ?

Hey! I was wondering about the partial question.
The only thing about cutting your bracket is that ends up limited by the frame in the new location so it can NOT move either way (barely move is more accurate), if you over cut it you will create some space for movement and you will feel the bracket some times hit the bottom bar on the frame and this can become annoying. It si better to cut a bit less than you need to and then do minor adjustment just to be certain you don't over do it. You actually have to leave just a small gap for the bracket to find it's position and if you end up with a little "click " when you apply your brakes you can insert a small neoprene shim at the contact point to eliminate it.
Now for the last Q, I did have new lines made but NOT because I had to as part of the bracket relocation mod. My bracket was relocated about 3 or 4 years ago but he new rear line I just installed about a month ago (the front is getting done today). When you relocate the bracket you do not even have to disconnect the lines, just re-route the hose to do a 180 degree at the nut, it is obvious at this point that the line is now longer that it needs to be be, so when I order the rear brake line, I requested a shorter line appropriate for the new route I had planned for it . As it now lays on the top frame of the swing-arm I can cut (dremmel out) the line holders on the bottom frame element of the swing-arm (the are way to large for a braided line anyway).
Along with the FP pipes, further cleans out the look of the entire wheel on this side.
So, After a few weeks of riding without any problems I finally removed the remaining welded brackets for the rear brake reservoir and the loops that held the rear caliper hose. here are some pics.
First pic is the cleaned out look of the rear wheel.
2nd pic is the hose that connects the reservoir to the master cylinder, used to go straight to the front, now bends 180 degrees to the new location (this hose is under no pressure as it is before the master cylinder right behind the exhaust pipes.
Last pic is the new location with the cover installed, it is now fixed to rear footrest bracket with a custom made bracket to hold it in place.
