Rear Bolt for Luggage Rack

Well, I made the mistake of buying a used luggage rack for my Vulcan S and failed to notice the posting indicated it didn't come with the mounting hardware. From what I can see all I really need is the bolt for the rear attachment point since the one that's in there now is too short.

Anyone know if left anything off the list or do I really only need the bolt?

Next question is where to get that bolt or an equivalent because I took a ride over to the Kawi dealer today and they had no bolt and no suggestions.

Help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Almost forgot that the dealer was able to tell me it's 8mm x 1.25mm but could not tell me the correct length. Based on the length of the current bolt plus the depth of the luggage rack I'm guessing something in the neighborhood of 40-45mm would do it but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know the correct length of the bolt?

If you want to order an original part it's part number is 92154-1805.
Otherwise you could just by a socket head cap screw M8 x 25mm coarse pitch (1.25mm)

I bought a socket head so I could remove the seat easily. There is also a sleeve that supports that bolt. I can measure the length when I get home is needed?

Illustratingbrandon thanks but I have the rack in my possession and measured it at about .75". Unfortunately that spacer eats up too much of the reach of the native bolt.

Thank Cpt. I'd LOVE to get OEM but 25mm isn't long enough though. The bolt that came with the bike is the 25mm but as I noted above isn't nearly long enough to fit through the spacer on the luggage rack and and still reach the threads in the bolt hole on the fender. There's no issue with the front bolt as it easily passes through the luggage rack and secures the seat but the rear bolt doesn't stick nearly far enough out the other end of the spacer to reach the threads. That's why I estimated above that I need a 40mm bolt.

Looking on Partzilla (thanks for the link) I don't see the luggage rack or parts for it listed. I also looked under the links for the rear fender and seat but found now joy so I called Partzilla. Turns out that since the rack is sold as an accessory Kawi doesn't sell the hardware on its own, it only comes with the rack. They tried their best but didn't find a substitute. They did however download the solo luggage rack installation instructions and told me the instructions say it's an 8mm x 1.25mm x 35mm button head.

I guess now I need to find a black 8mm x 1.25mm x 35mm button head.

I'll start the search with my good friend Google but if you (or anyone else) has a suggestion as to preferred suppliers of such things by all mean do let me know.

Thanks,
Chris

I found this at Bolt Depot....looks like it will work.

Unless anyone has a better idea this may be the winner.

If this ends up being the choice it'll be comical to pay $5.25 for shipping on a $0.30 bolt. Just not sure where I would find something similar locally and don't want to waste time searching supply houses over the weekend only to come up empty and end up ordering online. It's a new bike and I can live with the wasted $5.25 if necessary.

If anyone has a better solution just let me know otherwise I'll be placing an order.

Have you tried the hardware aisle at Lowes or HD? I know they often have cabinets with metric bolts and such. M8x1.25 is pretty common and you should be able to find something there. It may not be a button head with allen socket but a regular bolt head with a washer will work -just won't be as pretty.

Yeah, I picked up a temporary solution at my local hardware store. It's not attractive but it will work until I can find my permanent solution. I will check HD and Lowes as well but as you note it's not likely to be a button head with allen socket. You never know what you'll find and with a temp solution in place I can take my time searching for the right thing. If I have to bite the bullet and order online with shipping charges, so be it.

Hi, the rear bolt is 35mm long and the front one is 25mm long. The standard ones that come with the rack look to be stainless.

The front one has a flange type fitting on it to let it fit the seat mount better.

If I can figure out how to add images I can put some pictures of the bolts up.

Lowe's will definitely have some black button head Allen key bolts. I've stocked up on quite a few on mine already.
