A couple of years ago I had a VN900 custom in matte black. A small area of both the sides of the tank became shiny from the abrasion of the knees.
I will get a new Vulcan S in two days also in matte black. Does anyone know of a tank pad that would prevent the matte black tank sides from the abrasion of the knees? The shiny spots do not look nice in matte black tank. The shiny spots did not disappear even when I washed the bike.
Just sit like a girl with questionable morals......

Short of attaching a piece of moleskin to the tank on each side, but that would look like crap after it got rained on a time or two.. it also might leave a sticky residue when you peel it off to replace it... Maybe you could look into the Rhino lining knock off, you can get that stuff at an auto parts store or even Wal-Mart....

Sorry, I've never had a matt finish bike...
look at the techspec style tank pads - some of them are bike specific, but they have general sheets as well.
a friend has them for his interceptor and they are removable and reusable
Yes, I've seen those. Once I get the bike, I'll have to see in what exact area the patina is likely to appear from the abrasion. In my VN 900 Custom the area was pretty much in the centre of the tank side.
