One of the reasons I did the power calculations and a total LED conversion on our Vulcan S (threads elsewhere on the forum) was to save enough alternator power to enable the installation of heated grips.
There are several decent solutions out there, and I've installed grip heaters of various types on my past bikes.
Wanting to keep this fairly low-cost, I've ordered the Bike Master p/n 101922 kit for 7/8" bars:
At $40.37 thru Amazon Prime it won't break the bank...I just hope the included wiring harnesses are of sufficient length.
Another reason I'm trying this set is due to their (relatively) low power consumption. Bike Master support quickly answered my email inquiry regarding this issue, as it's not easily found on their website or in their online installation instructions:
At a max current of under 3A I think this is a good test unit; note the time/temperature chart assumes an ambient of 25°F as a starting point.
The fused power feed will be from the battery thru an additional relay I'll install under the seat, triggered by the OEM accessory bullet connectors there - I elected to do it this way as I'm already drawing 1.8A from the accessory circuit for LED driving lights and a GPI.
I'll post pics and results of the installation when the goodies arrive if anyone expresses an interest.
