I love the way the delk sounds but can't convince myself to like the fat can on it. I've scoured the posts about exhaust but nothing about anyone doing just the header and a separate muffler or baffle, much less any info on the one or two people that have. Anyway, main question is what options are there to add to the delk header to look more cruiser style than a crotch rocket? I'm on the fence with ordering and want to asap, figured I'd confer with the hive mind before I spend the couple hundred. Thanks in advance guys!
I'm right there with you. I ordered a Jones Exhaust 17" glass pack from Summit Racing and all I'm waiting on is for my welder to free up to tack it together before I wrap and install it. I have no idea what it will sound like, but it's a pretty direct fit size-wise and with everybody swapping out baffles and stuffing scouring pads in the tailpipes, I figured backpressure wasn't going to be an issue in throwing a code.
Edit: I can't quite remember the sizing, but the glass pack fits very snugly over the delkevic pipe. I mean, super snug to the point that I almost don't need it welded up, but just clamped instead.
Can you hand me a link for it? I'll have to check it out, I went ahead and ordered the headers yesterday, obviously don't want to run straight pipe so I'll need to slap something on there
This is the exact link to what I got. I also picked up a couple of cheap Harley sportster silencer baffles just in case it was too much. I can't imagine that being the case, though
This is what I am considering...cutting off the factory muffler as close to the muffler as I can get then welding on one of these. Hope you can post a video of how it sounds....
Wilco. I just sent it to the welder in exchange for an extra LoG/Clutch ticket I had \m/ as soon as I get it back, I'll wrap and install and have before/after video
Probably tomorrow. I have some work being done on the house so I can't really leave and I can't sleep (I work nights), so I might as well do something useful....
Love it, good ish bro that's badass! I'm gonna find one of those mufflers too, would it be impossible to get a vid of you riding? Like have someone else shoot it as you ride by?
I'll look into that. Probably muffle it a little with an insert. My wife could hear me a block away, and a friend two blocks away heard me fire it up yesterday. It's not too loud for me on the bike by any means, but law enforcement will definitely take notice if it's that loud!
So I installed the header, my muffler will be here tomorrow but had to hear it straight piped, holy hell. I don't see how people can do that. Sounds amazing like a v8 on the drag strip and not raspy like I thought but damn it was loud. Need the muffler and a baffle asap lol
Here's a drive by video. Granted i was riding like a sane middle-aged dude not out to piss off the neighborhood, so you can tell it's not crazy until you wrap it out.
Exactly. It's not crazy loud like I thought. My wife has a 1300 with Cobra pipes and it's super loud. Now maybe I can hear my own bike running besides hers, though....
Haha yeah i love the sound, might slap a baffle in it, time will tell after its welded up and I ride it on the road, definitely bearable compared to straight pipe haha. Stupid question but if I order a universal baffle, how do they typically hold in there? Never messed with a baffle before.
Baffles like this are on ebay for cheap, and that's what I have. I drilled a hole in the bottom side of the glasspack and you can see where it simply bolts in. Easiest I can imagine. They are cheap enough (<$5) that I picked up a 4" and 8" just to have them handy. It's not a super tight fit as there is a little gap around them, but I did notice a little decrease in decibels.
Edit: I don't know if it would work with the other canister mufflers and such, but the glasspack I have is straight through, so these fit easily.
Had an early day at work so took mine in and had it welded up, might ride into town to an actual exhaust place and see if they have a baffle I can throw in and maybe a tip to point it to the ground
Yesterday morning had it all welded and "custom" hanger made to utilize the stock hanger location, looks/feels/sounds solid, not deafening and not ricey, seriously sounds like a v8 lol
I was going to point it out to the side as well to keep it from possibly blowing exhaust gasses onto the tire, not that it would slip enough but it could happen.
