I just purchased a 2016 Vulcan S Cafe, and I'm thinking about removing the decals as I'd prefer a blacked out look over the green racing stripe (pic attached).
What would be the best way to go about this?
Are the decals under a clear coat?
Would I be better off using a vinyl wrap / plasti-dip?
I really like the matte grey colour underneath the decals and I'd love more of a minimalist look if it's not going to break the bank.
I have the 2015 and tried peeling up the Kawasaki Vulcan s decal on the tank and it turns out it was satin-coated over, so it wasn't going to be a clean removal by any means. I wasn't concerned because I'm going to paint the tank eventually, so I wasn't worried about being the guinea pig on that one. If I peeled them off, it looked like there was going to be a perfect crisp outline of where the decals were. I'm not sure about feathering it with superfine, but I wouldn't recommend it because the finish wouldn't be the same.
No pertinent to your question... but how do you like that windshield? I've been wanting a sleep option for my 15 but hate to spend all that $$ on a windshield that doesn't actually deflect any air.
Here's what you're looking at; check out the leading edge of the S
Edit: since I'm going to paint the tank anyways, I thought it would be of some benefit to anybody wondering 'what would happen if....' if I went ahead and peeled a little more for demonstration purposes =)
