Monday evening, a little past 10pm (EST), a drunk driver ran into my parked motorcycle and took off. (Confirmed he was drunk by the arresting officers who finally caught him after he ran into a federal building while trying to hide from them.)
Debris from the shattered saddlebag was found 25 yards behind the bike, and almost twice as far forward from the bike. Looks like he may only have clipped the exhaust, but it was still hard enough a hit that the exhaust now leaks from the rear head. Somehow, he even clipped the throttle and mirror on the right side, making me think the driver was in a truck. (Cops have not told me just whom it was... wonder why...)
The bike is up at Starting Line right now. Dave, the owner personally went over the bike inspecting every little detail. The frame, fortunately, was not bent, and that was a real concern. Nor does there appear to be any damage to the engine. Still, the parts total came up to just over $5500, plus another grand for labor.
Financially, she is sitting right on the cusp of being declared totaled by the insurance claims adjuster. I'll find out that verdict in a couple hours or so.
If the bike is not declared totaled, it will be at least three weeks, possibly up to a whole month, before the bike is fixed. If the adjuster says it is totaled, then I have the option of buying the bike back, and having it fixed, which gives me the same time frame, or I could purchase a new New (to me) bike. It has gotta be a Nomad. A Voyager or Vaquero just does not meet my needs. With the fairing I have, I have outstanding wind protection, and the stereo just OWNS the Kawasaki unit. And I want a 1700, cause I need that cruise control.
Pray for my Princess Celestia, that she may recover and roll down the highway once again.
