So as you know, tried out the Mustang seat supposedly one of the most comfortable seat on the market, and could not take it because it was so hard, switch back to the stock mean City Cycles upgrade. Now I can't get comfortable on either one! My left side butt cheek seems to sit flat, while the right side felt like I had a new bone sticking straight down into the seat causing pain, especially when I was on the Mustang due to it being harder than the memory foam from mean City Cycles. So I decided, due to some back pain I was experiencing since I did some spring yard work, picking up 50 pounds of mulch , decided to see a chiropractor, I had not been to a chiropractor in approximately 9 years. Wow! He pretty much told me everything that was going wrong, when your back's out of whack, it moves your pelvic bones and tail bones too! He showed me exactly why I was having that right pressure point, new bone sensation on my right butt cheek! He said he should have me fixed up in about 5 visits! Thank God I only pay the deductible, 50 bucks each visit. Well worth it , probably be keeping my Mustang seat, and after he puts Humpty Dumpty back together again, give the old Mustang another shot!
Once you go to a chiropractor, they will pressure you do have "maintenance" sessions. And really, you will probably want them once you realize how much good they do. The problem is that your back gets "re-trained" to a bad alignment when you get injured and can and usually will slip back into it. Using an inversion table replaces the maintenance sessions.
I had a severe back injury years ago. I went to chiropractors for a long time, and they did me good. If I didn't go at least twice per month, I was in serious pain. But I now save a TON of money by using an inversion table. I haven't been to a twister fiend in 6 - 7 years and don't need to. Saving $20 a session, twice per month paid for my $250 table in just over 6 months.
Yep, I went one other time for sore sholder blade, about 5 sessions and good for 7 years. I am hoping since relatively new injury that back has not been trained in this bad habit and 5, 6 sessions be feeling good. Like the idea of your table and need to research that baby. thanks,
Seriously, once you go to one, you will change your mind. I was also a skeptic until I could hardly walk from a back problem, 2 visits later I was right as rain and haven't needed to go back since, and that was 10 years ago! Please don't slam what you know nothing about, lest we start comparing you to a Harley owner. LOL! :laugh2:
That's what I said, until the back pain got bad enough 6 years ago that I was ready to try anything. Good move, I was better than I had been in years, within two months. I go once a month now.
Massage chair. Did the chiropractor thing for a few weeks and then got a very good massage chair. $1500 at the time. Have not had a bad episode since. Also try stretching on a regular basis. this will help with your recovery.
Had a back problem so painful that I couldn't move anything without being in excruciating agony. Had to crawl to the bathroom painfully on hands and knees. Doctor said to lie on my back with a heating pad on a hard surface. Did so - no improvement after three days. Painfully staggered back to doctor and said that I was returning to work, excruciating pain or no, and needed a release from him. He said that I should continue as he had directed but also gave me some back exercises to do, which I very painfully did, as well as giving me a release. Had several weeks with lots of pain, but pain finally relented. Then learned that treadmill exercise - daily walking - would prevent most back pain and would help to get rid of back pain when it did occur. Am thanking the Lord for insights and wonderful relief! No chiropractor needed!
Chiropractors can help, but I urge everyone with chronic back pain to consult a physician first. I spent lots of money on a chiropractor only to discover that I have arthritis in my spine and the onset of degenerative disc disease right about where my belt sits. No amount of chiropractic in the world could fix that, and in my case, it actually irritated it by inflaming it. There are things I can do to alleviate the pain. Losing weight would be the first thing (I'm 6-4 and weigh almost 270). But as most folks with chronic pain know, pain makes exercise difficult, which makes you gain more weight, which aggravates the condition more, which makes exercise more difficult....
Oddly enough, thanks to my Mustang seat setup, the passenger seat sits snug up against my spine right where it hurts, and supports it. I can ride all day without any back pain. The other day I did a 260 mile run. The only time my back hurt was when we stopped for lunch and I sat on a hard chair in a restaurant.
Yep I guess everybody situation is clearly different. I just felt that with how I injured Myself by picking up a bag, of mulch, and then the butt pain that I experience on my right side butt cheek, what he explained to me seemed pretty sound. If I'm not seeing a great difference after three or four visits, will definitely be seeing a specialist for the back. Unfortunately if you've been reading my post, you know the Mustang seat did not work out for me, mainly do to the hardness of it, and my right cheekbone pushing straight down into the seat , causing numbness in my right leg, and other problems, if he can get my tailbone evened out, would be that would be great as I love to possibly go back to Mustang it set me in a much better upright posture for riding. Unfortunately my wife hates the seat, the Mustang, she says it's twice as hard and hates that it's wider, as her butt doesn't seem to fit on it as well as the stock, also my kids can't touch the pedals on the Mustang seat, they also complain it's hard as a rock , and no strap.
Sorry to hear bout all the back pains, had a back pain or 2 but nothn serious
But man the leg cramps I go thru,Thank god I put the hwy pegs on.Dr in the house? lol
IF you can see a physician first, you probably should, but make sure that they are not Chrophobic. If you go to a Chiropractor, make sure they understand their limitations and are not anti-traditional medicine. If a Chiropractor says they can cure any ill, or tells me I will not get proper treatment from a traditional doctor, I will find someone else.
When I hurt my back, it was the last week of December. I was hurting so bad that it took me about 5 min. just to go from the bed to the bathroom (sitting on the toilet was like having a hot poker stuck against my leg from the hip to my foot) and another 5 - 10 to get back to bed. If I hadn't had furniture and other things to lean on, I don't think I could have made it. I am still amazed that I was able to get up off the toilet by myself. I called many doctors, specialist and GPs, trying to get an immediate appointment. Even after telling them how much pain I was in, most said they could see me sometime in February!!! The rest weren't taking new patients. I didn't have a regular physician at the time and even general practitioners wouldn't give me an appointment for less than 4 - 5 weeks later.
There was a chiropractic clinic 3 blocks from my house. When I called and explained my situation, they asked how soon could I get there. I somehow managed to get in my truck and drive there. They started therapy within an hour of my call. Shock #1: They encouraged me to see a physician if I wanted another opinion or the pain was more than I could handle without prescription meds. I didn't.
After the 9 months of therapy, I had no feeling in my left calf and most of my foot. Shock #2: the Chiropractor sent me to a Neurologist (I picked one and he provided a referral). Shock #3: at the conclusion of the exam, the Neurologist told me to let my Chiropractor know that he was doing an excellent job. He also told me that other than having surgery, which he did not recommend at the time, there was nothing more that traditional medicine could have done for me. It is very rare for Chiropractors to admit their limitations and for traditional doctors to say good things about chiropractors.
Like I said in an earlier post, I had to go to a Chiropractor twice a month for years (about 20) until I got the inversion table. Haven't needed an adjustment in about 6 years with the inversion table.
Watching a couple videos on this right now, intriguing, I kind of like it, especially since you can get one for around 90 bucks, how far do you invert, how many days and for how long?
It was a hot summer in the SE. I bought some mesh armor pants and quick dry underwear to try and stay cool, big impovement. A byproduct was less butt burn. I didn't get the connection until I read a thread on the forum about keeping dry and improved comfort. At first I just thouhgt my Corbin seat was finally getting broken in after 10,000 miles.
I can ride 45 min. - 1 hour longer when I wear quick dry underwear instead of cotton boxers before getting uncomfortable. i don't know the medical science behind it I just know I can ride longer and in more comfort. Best $10 investment for improved riding comfort!
Yep, Roman was talking about this, and it's definitely true! I can ride much longer before but burn during the winter. Never put two and two together until Romans comment on staying dry.
He can get you aligned, but he should also be giving you exercises to strengthen yous you can hold the correct alignment. Then you should start doing yoga as well. Keeping proper weight, flexibility, and exercise go a long way to providing a quality of life.
Revrider,if you have never been, what do you base your strong opinion on? Or are you just insofar those that has to cut down everything to feel good about your choices?

My chiropractor gave me stretches that help very much, told me to only use an id case instead of thick wallet, because sitting on a thick wallet on one side throws your spine out which tries to correct by throwing it out the opposite direction giving you a curving spine. When you have an injury, your muscles contract around the injury to protect it causing muscle spasms.Thats why they want repeat visits as the muscle pulls the joint back out until it gets relaxed and stays that way.Stretches loosen the muscles and prevent the injury in the first place, tight muscles get strained or pulled. My chiro also said I have arthritis in my lower back and showed me on the x ray,he adjusts my lower spine to keep movement in it so it doesn't get worse, you can google stretches for your back and get the info, they really help. You just have to have the discipline and do them each day, aprox 15 minutes.I need to research the table,I know if something separates my discs,I get severe pain and it feels like it is throwing my back out,so I stay away from that but maybe its supposed to feel that way.Lots of good suggestions on here.
Quick update, I went 5 sessions, feEl a little better. Still in pain, but not excruciating. I don't think he was really moving my butt bones like he said he was. Seemed like same adjustments every visit. I am planning on getting xray to remove any slip disc theories.
Many chiropractors take x-rays. If the one you are going to didn't, maybe you should look for another one. They need to know what is wrong so they can treat accordingly.
BTW, once they determine what treatment is needed, they do usually do the same adjustments every session. That is not at all unusual. You may not feel any movement, but once you are healed, if you have some back pain and go in for a maintenance adjustment, you will likely feel the difference after the session.
So here's my story... I've had migraines and back troubles since a concussive combat injury, and when my back gets out of whack I'd see a Chiropractor, which helped immensely. I had quit riding for 9 years (teenage kids, all the sports and extracurricular activities was hard to maintain on a bike). After the kids left the nest I bought a bike and started riding again, and for whatever reason riding keeps my back squared away. So when the road is iced and snowy I visit a Chiropractor, but in dry weather I ride.... with the same results. For both of my bikes I sent my seat off for a supracore modification to Spencers. and my Chiropractor suggested the supracore was helping keep me properly aligned while riding and the vibration and ride were likely helping with natural adjustments. If you have pain from riding and various aftermarket seats don't help, try a supracore reupholster with the long distance upgrade from Spencer. The cost is about 30% of an aftermarket seat and the seat is only gone a couple weeks. Just my story, your results may vary...
I don't know but my Bone crusher works wonders in only one or two visits ,
as he knows im out on the road and don't get home to see him all the time
I just pay the bill each time as it's only $32.50 ,
I have been to ones who will string you along and extract as much out of you as they can with out fixing it ,
if your using insurance you will never be fixed with him
he is in the little town where i live , I tell every one about his game , it's best if he is having lunch in the same place .
and yes i really dislike him and he knows it , I make a point of it lol
I should add i have the Mustang seat on my 1700 Classic with a back rest , I can put a 100 miles on and get off feeling good , and it surprises me every time , i love that bike
