I've only been riding a few years, most of the time with ear plugs, but am still worried that I could be damaging my hearing. So I mentioned this to my Dr. and he recommended a phone app called "uHear" that does a test for hearing damage. I downloaded it on my iphone and it shows that I have perfectly normal hearing... so far. Obviously I have no way to know if it is valid but I was impressed that it was Dr. recommended. He did say that if I'm still concerned or if the app shows a problem I could get formally tested as well.

Also, it looks like you can save your results so that you can repeat the test months apart to see if your hearing is declining. I did it twice today and both tests came back virtually identical, so it does seem reliable based on my limited sample size.
For those of us who are not of the "Apple" ideology" There are apps out there for windows phone/OS users as well. The uhear app is also available for Android users. I found an app for us Windows users that was created, allegedly, by an individual who has no association with any hearing aid marketer. I downloaded that and will give it a test drive over the next few weeks.
I had a post a couple years back on the Vulcan 900 and it affecting my tinitus I started wearing earplugs, and it actually got worse, after extensive research on the internet, found out that if you have a certain kind of tinitud or something associated with it, wearing earplugs can actually make it worse, my hearing is perfect too, but I still have ringing in my ears constantly mostly in my left ear. Now with my new Vulcan 900, I just let it ride, no plugs, and try to keep it around 65 70 miles an hour, The Sweet Spot for Less engine noise. Sometimes my ears seem to bring more than often, but I don't think hearing has gotten worse.
If you ride at highway speeds (60 mph+) for more than short periods and don't use hearing protection you are pretty much guaranteed to suffer some hearing loss. There is a lot of information out there about hearing damage from wind noise even wearing a full face helmet.
I spoke to my father-in-law who rides a Harley, about ear protection a couple years ago and asked if his ears ring. He replied heck yes they rang and I love it it keeps me from hearing the old lady nagging as much! LOL
